Zombie-megahitti Train to Busanin ohjaaja Yeon Sang-ho tiristää infektioaiheesta vielä lisää verta ja adrenaliinia. Colonyn skenaario muistuttaa Dawn of the Deadiä, mutta toimintalataus on moninkertainen. Maailmanensi-iltansa uutuus sai arvokkaimmalla mahdollisella foorumilla, Cannesin festivaalin Midnight-sarjassa.

Terrori-isku biotiedekonferenssiin Soulissa pakottaa viranomaiset eristämään pilvenpiirtäjän, kun muurahaisten ja limasienten tapaan yhdyskuntamaisesti käyttäytyvät ”zombiet” valtaavat käytävät. Tilanne pahenee jatkuvasti: tartunnan saaneiden kollektiivinen mieli oppii uutta. Konttaavat ja mainosten kimppuun käyvät raivohullut nousevat pian jaloilleen ja tunnistavat ihmisuhrinsa.

Sisällä piilottelevat henkiinjääneet pyrkivät professori Kwonin (Gianna Jun, Kingdom) johdolla torjumaan sieni-ihmisten hyökkäyksiä tieteellisen ajattelun ja kauppakeskuksen myyntiartikkelien avulla. Haasteeksi muodostuu monenluonteisten ihmisten keskinäinen yhteistyö hermopaineen alla.

Sienirihmaston tartuttamien pelottavat, spasmiset liikkeet ovat korealaisten huipputanssijoiden taidonnäyte. Sang-hon edellisestä zombieteoksesta Peninsulasta tuttu Koo Kyo-hwan nähdään myös Colonyssa pirullisena antagonistina.

Colony is almost like Resident Evil but stripped of all the excessively complicated mythology and extraneous supernatural elements. Yeon instead concentrates on the basic idea of evil scientists poking at the natural order just to see what happens. —

While there are plentiful action sequences, endless suspenseful survival horror, and a lot of biting, Colony is that rare horror movie where the scientific method goes beyond a few pseudo-equations on a white board.”
